OZEV Grant: Complete Guide for North West UK Homeowners (2026)

If you drive an electric car in the North West UK — whether you're in Manchester, Liverpool, Preston, Warrington, Chester or anywhere across Lancashire, Cheshire, Merseyside or Cumbria — the OZEV Chargepoint Grant can knock up to £350 off the cost of a fully fitted home charger. Here's everything you need to know for 2026.

What is the OZEV EV Chargepoint Grant?

The OZEV Grant is a UK government scheme run by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles. It contributes up to 75% of the cost of buying and installing a dedicated home EV charger, capped at £350 per chargepoint. One grant is allowed per eligible vehicle and per household.

The older Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) closed in March 2022. What remains is targeted specifically at people who historically had the least access to home charging — flat owners and renters — which covers a huge slice of properties across the North West UK, particularly in Manchester city centre, Salford Quays, Liverpool's Baltic Triangle and the dense terraces of Bolton, Stockport and Wigan.

Who qualifies in the North West UK?

The grant is available if you:

  • Own a flat, or
  • Live in rental accommodation (a flat or single-use property)
  • Have dedicated off-street parking
  • Own, lease or have use of an OZEV-eligible electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle
  • Haven't already claimed the OZEV chargepoint grant or the old EVHS for that vehicle

Owner-occupiers of standard houses with driveways are no longer eligible — but the cost of a fully fitted install from Home EV Chargers still starts from £699 across the North West.

Which vehicles are eligible?

All full battery electric vehicles (BEVs) qualify. Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) only qualify if their CO₂ emissions are below 50 g/km. The government maintains a full list of OZEV-eligible vehicles.

How to claim — we do the paperwork

You must claim the grant before installation takes place. That's the single most common mistake we see across the North West — homeowners book a quick install, the cable goes up, and the grant window closes.

When you book through Home EV Chargers, we:

  • Confirm your eligibility for free during the quote
  • Collect the supporting documents (V5C, tenancy or lease)
  • Submit the OZEV application on your behalf
  • Deduct the grant directly from your invoice — you never have to wait to be reimbursed

Landlords and flat managers in the North West

If you manage a block in Manchester, Liverpool, Preston or anywhere across the region, you may qualify for the separate EV infrastructure grant for residential car parks — up to £500 per bay, for up to 60 bays. It's a powerful way to add value to a development without inflating service charges.

Landlords renting out individual properties can also claim the EV chargepoint grant for landlords — up to £350 per socket.

Are OZEV grants still available?

Yes. As of 2026 there is no announced end date for the chargepoint grant or the landlord/infrastructure schemes. We recommend claiming sooner rather than later — government EV incentives historically tighten without much notice.
